About Us
Leon E. Hank of Holt, Michigan developed the Big Buck Ranch Inc. with help from his father Louis and son Jeff.  The ranch is 270 acres of high-quality deer, bear, grouse and waterfowl habitat on Neebish Island in the eastern UP near Sault Ste. Marie.   In 2008, Leon wrote a book about his love for the UP and its rich hunting heritage.  Originally, he intended the book to be only for his family.  Along the way, he learned that there were many good stories about Proud Hunters and Proud Yoopers, so he published this book allowing others to experience the thrills of being a Proud Hunter and Proud Yooper.

Buy your book today and start enjoying these well told stories about life in the UP from a gifted writer whose clarity and vivid descriptions will have you feeling like you are there alongside the hunters in these adventures.  Click on our OnLine Store button on the home page for your purchase.

The Big Buck Ranch on Neebish Island is managed under deer management  principles prescribed by the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA).  For more information about the QDMA, contact the organization at QDMA.com.

Proud Hunters Proud Yoopers talks about the development of deer management in Michigan and the work of the state's Natural Resources Commission and the Department of Natural Resources in managing our wildlife.  The book extensively covers how some hunters become involved in "Deer Politics," the politics of hunting and wildlife management.

The Hank family has also hunted for decades on public hunting lands in the UP, including in the great Gogemain Swamp near Stalwart and Raber.  Throughout the book, there are numerous hunts and adventures that happen deep in the vast forests of the eastern UP's Gogemain, the "Burning" and "Hungry Hill."
